Water is essential to all known forms of life. It covers 71% of the Earth's surface, mostly in oceans and other large water bodies. Saltwater oceans hold 97% of surface water, glaciers and polar ice caps 2.4%, and other land surface water such as rivers and lakes 0.6%. As a result, drinkable water is a very scarce resource. Unfortunately, these existing resources are being polluted every day, due to increasing population, industrialization and careless human consumption. In Turkey, the amount of yearly water consumption per person is quite low with a level of 1430 cbm.
 In the light of recent deviations in rainfall intensity and climate change, it is vital to protect the existing resources, treating and recycling water to satisfy residential, industrial and municipal demands.
